On the night of Wednesday, February 7, 2024, Kayode Tijani, aged 55, breathed his last at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, after a prolonged battle with illness, sending shockwaves through the sports fraternity.
Confirmation of Tijani's passing came from his sister, Dr. Ganiyat Tijani-Adenle, a senior lecturer at the Lagos State University (LASU). The beloved sports journalist is set to be laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites on Thursday, February 6, 2024, at Atan Cemetery in Lagos.
Renowned as the Chief Executive Officer of SportsXclusive and Sports Focus International, Kayode Tijani's contributions to the sports journalism landscape have left an indelible mark. Beyond his entrepreneurial ventures, he served as the Chief Press Secretary to the late former Minister of Sports, Chief Alex Akinyele.
Beginning his career in 1987 as a sports journalist, Tijani's dedication and passion for his craft led him to cover sporting events across the globe. His illustrious career included stints at the Guardian Newspaper, Complete Football, Fame magazine, Channels TV, and BEN TV in the United Kingdom, before he ventured into entrepreneurship by establishing his sports company.
