Nigeria’s Oluwatobiloba Amusan is reeling with excitement after claiming a gold medal in the 100m hurdles at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States of America.

Amusan, 25, made history as the first African and Nigerian to win a gold medal in the event, after coasting home with a time of 12.06s.

It would have been her second world record (WR) of the day but for the excess wind.

The Ogun State-born athlete had earlier set a new world record of 12.22s in the semi-final.

Jamaican Britany Anderson came second in

12.23s, while Olympic Champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn settled for bronze with the same time.

Amusan said after her historic feat. "I couldn’t be more thankful. I have come out here with a win and a world record."

Her close friend, Ese Brume, also made the day more memorable for Nigeria, claiming a silver medal in the women’s long jump.
