In a surprising last-minute switch, Stuart Attwell has been removed as the referee for Aston Villa’s Premier League showdown against Liverpool on Wednesday night.
The experienced official will now be replaced by Craig Pawson.
Pawson was initially set to referee Monday’s Championship clash between Leeds United and Sunderland at Elland Road. However, following concerns from fans over his alleged support for Sheffield United, he was replaced by Attwell for that fixture. Despite speculation, the UK Mirror confirms the change was purely due to scheduling adjustments and not a conflict of interest.
Now, Pawson will take charge of Villa’s crucial home game against Liverpool at Villa Park.
