In a display of sheer dominance, the Super Falcons of Nigeria asserted their prowess in the first leg of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, clinching a commanding 5-0 victory against Cape Verde on Thursday.
From the initial kickoff at the MKO Abiola Stadium, the Super Falcons seized control of the match, setting the tempo and creating numerous scoring opportunities. The crowd erupted in joy as Uchenna Kanu broke the deadlock in the seventh minute, marking the beginning of an impressive performance by the home team.
Maintaining their relentless attack, the Super Falcons extended their lead to 2-0 in the 25th minute, courtesy of Gift Monday, who capitalized on a goalmouth scramble. Before the halftime whistle, Kanu secured her brace with a brilliant finish, propelling the home team to a commanding 3-0 advantage.
As the second half unfolded, Super Falcons coach Justin Madugu strategically introduced Esther Onyenezide and Esther Okoronkwo for Peace Efih and Gift Monday, respectively.
