Real Madrid legend, Roberto Carlos, has picked Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo over Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi in his ultimate Champions League XI.
Ronaldo has enjoyed a great career in the Champions League, having won the illustrious trophy on five occasions.
The Portugal captain won four times with Real Madrid and once with Manchester United.
Messi, meanwhile, won the trophy four times during his time at Barcelona.
Despite having never played alongside Ronaldo, Carlos was quick to include the 37-year-old ahead of Messi when picking his best-ever Champions League XI.
Speaking to Sport Bible, the former Brazilian defender explained his choice.
He said, “Cristiano represents exactly what the Champions League is and modern football." We will only have one Cristiano.
Below is Carlos’ ultimate Champions League XI in full:
Iker Casillas; Cafu, Fernando Hierro, Fabio Cannavaro, Marcelo; Fernando Redondo, Casemiro, Zinedine Zidane; Francesco Totti, Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo.
