Former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has tipped Ademola Lookman to clinch the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.
Lookman has emerged as the leading favorite for the prestigious honor following a stellar season for both club and country. The Nigerian forward's exceptional performances have set him apart, making him a standout contender.
Other nominees for the award include Serhou Guirassy, Achraf Hakimi, Rowen Williams, and Simon Adingra. Despite the stiff competition, Rohr believes Lookman’s transformation and growth have made him a deserving winner.
“He has made remarkable progress,” Rohr told Foot Africa. “The tough early years he faced in England and Germany are now behind him. He has risen from those challenges to become a shining star.”
The former Super Eagles boss further praised Lookman’s evolution as a player:
“Lookman is now a complete footballer—equally brilliant as an assist provider and a goal scorer. I watched him closely during my time with the Super Eagles, and his journey from the shadows to stardom has been inspiring.”
The 2024 CAF Awards ceremony is set to take place next week Monday in Marrakech, Morocco, where Africa’s footballing elite will gather to celebrate excellence.
