The contenders for the 2022–23 UEFA Men's Player of the Year award have been unveiled.

The recipient of this prestigious accolade will be disclosed during the 2023–24 UEFA Champions League group stage draw event scheduled for Thursday, August 31st, at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

The process for forming the shortlist involved the UEFA technical study group assessing players' performances across the 2022–23 season, spanning both club and national team participation.

Subsequently, the three leading nominees were determined through a voting system.

This voting panel consisted of coaches from clubs engaged in the group stages of the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Europa Conference League.

Additionally, national team coaches from UEFA member associations and a group of journalists designated by the European Sports Media (ESM) participated in the voting.

Each coach and journalist was tasked with selecting their top three players from the initial shortlist, assigning five points, three points, and one point accordingly.

The final outcome depended on the cumulative votes collected from both coaches and journalists.

Notably, coaches were prohibited from voting for players from their own teams.

4 lkay Gündoan (Germany and Manchester City, now at Barcelona): 129 points

5 Rodri (Spain and Manchester City): 110 points
