Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak has chosen Argentina captain Lionel Messi over Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo as the best player.

Oblak came up against both Ronaldo and Messi on numerous occasions when the two forwards played in La Liga for Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively.

The Slovenian described Messi as a spectacular player, adding that the Paris Saint-Germain forward is at the highest level.

“It is a difficult question, yes, but with Messi, I have always said it,” Oblak told GOAL when asked to pick the better player between Messi and Ronaldo.

“He is spectacular." He is at the highest level. "For me, he is the best.”

Messi recently won the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina in Qatar, effectively putting an end to the age-old "GOAT" debate between him and Ronaldo.
