Victor Osimhen's Absence Casts Doubt on Napoli's Clash with Lecce and Nigeria's World Cup Qualifiers
Napoli's preparations for their upcoming match against Lecce began without star forward Victor Osimhen, who missed training on Monday.
The Nigerian international, who has been sidelined since sustaining an injury during Napoli’s home defeat to Bologna two weeks ago, has yet to rejoin his teammates on the pitch.
Osimhen also missed Napoli's recent game against Fiorentina, and his current training regimen is limited to gym work at the club’s Konami Training Centre, according to Napoli's official website. This raises concerns about his availability for the crucial Serie A match against Lecce.
The 25-year-old forward's injury could also impact Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. The Super Eagles are set to face South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, June 7, followed by a match against Benin Republic at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan three days later.
Osimhen's potential absence from these fixtures would be a significant blow for Nigeria, as the team relies heavily on his scoring prowess. Fans and officials alike are hoping for a speedy recovery, but as of now, his participation remains uncertain.
