Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy believes Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag should drop midfielder Bruno Fernandes from his squad to help him rediscover his best form.
Murphy, who described Fernandes as one of Manchester United’s most creative players, wants Ten Hag to pick Christian Eriksen ahead of the Portugal international based on his current form.
Fernandes moved to Manchester United in January 2020 and enjoyed a stellar first 18 months at Old Trafford.
Fernandes’ form last season took a dramatic dip, and he has scored just once and registered two assists in his 13 appearances for Manchester United so far this season.
Ineffective during Man United’s Premier League 0-0 draw with Newcastle over the weekend, Fernandes was once again chosen by Ten Hag to play behind the striker, with Eriksen left on the bench.
But Murphy believes Eriksen should start for Manchester United instead of Fernandes.
“It’s a real concern for one of their most creative players (Fernandes’ lack of goal involvement). I think when Eriksen comes back he [Erik Ten Hag] may have to take him out of the firing line for a little while and put him in [to] give him a little kick up the bottom to see if they can improve his numbers, because every player needs that now and again,” Murphy told The Mail.
