Former Chelsea star Florent Malouda has stated his view on why top players are leaving Chelsea this summer.

The former France international said that the club is selling ‘better’ players to rival clubs because those players do not believe in the vision and project under Todd Boehly.

Jorginho joined Arsenal in January, Mateo Kovacic just joined Premier League team Manchester City, and Kai Havertz is set to sign for the north London side.

The Blues are having a clearance sale this summer as they attempt to comply with Financial Fair Play and avoid sanctions from football authorities.

N’Golo Kante and Kalidou Koulibaly have already left the Stamford Bridge outfit for Saudi Pro League clubs, and more are to follow.

Manchester United are pressing on to sign Mason Mount, while Hakim Ziyech is also expected to leave.

“Chelsea didn’t sell players to rivals under Roman Abramovich for one simple reason: the club was very competitive,” Malouda told Genting Casino.
“Players wanted to stay because there was a winning mentality—Chelsea were always competing for the biggest prizes.
“What we’re seeing at the moment, selling players to rivals, isn’t solely to do with FFP; this is because the players that are going to move on don’t really believe in what is happening at the club.”
