Award-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has called on fans to stop comparing him to the legendary Afrobeat pioneer and activist, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

The Daily Post reports that Burna Boy, known for his thought-provoking and socially conscious music, has faced backlash after allegedly detaining fellow artist Speed Darlington for defamation.

Addressing the criticism and the persistent comparisons to Fela, Burna Boy made his stance clear through his Instagram story.

"I'm not Fela, I’m BIG7. All that Burna Boy and Fela talk needs to stop. I’m all about positivity, peace, and prosperity, but truthfully, I’d rather kill than die for you,” he stated emphatically.

The self-proclaimed African Giant emphasized his individuality, urging fans to respect his unique identity and contributions to music.

Why Burna Boy Rejects the Comparison

Burna Boy’s music often draws parallels to Fela’s due to its revolutionary themes and Afrobeat influence. However, he has consistently expressed his desire to be seen as an artist with a distinct style and vision.
