In a swift response to U.

S. President Donald Trump’s threatened mass deportations, Mexican soldiers moved quickly on Thursday to establish emergency shelters along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The Mexican government unveiled plans to open nine shelters for its citizens and an additional three shelters for deported foreigners under a new initiative called “Mexico Embraces You.”

In Matamoros, a city in northeastern Mexico directly across the border from Brownsville, Texas, Navy personnel worked tirelessly to erect olive-green tents on a large sports field. According to local authorities, this shelter—one of three under construction in Tamaulipas state—will have the capacity to accommodate around 3,000 people.

Meanwhile, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the country is committed to providing humanitarian assistance to deported migrants from other nations before facilitating their repatriation.

This development follows President Trump’s declaration of a national emergency at the U.S. southern border earlier this week, during which he promised to deport "millions of migrants."

The Mexican government’s swift action highlights its preparedness to support both its citizens and foreign nationals during this challenging time.
