It was a black Thursday yesterday in Edo state as armed men yesterday evening invaded Igarra, the headquarters of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State and killed not fewer than 12 people in their bid to rob two commercial banks, though their attempt was not successful.
The robbers had earlier attacked the local police station where they shot and killed a policeman on duty with two detainees while also setting s a Toyota Hilux on fire. They then headed to attack the banks.
Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident but said information about the attack was still 'sketchy' and he will give detailed update about the incident later.
At least four other persons were reportedly killed at the banks when the armed men could not have access to the vaults of the banks.
A leader in the community who is the Palace Secretary to the paramount ruler or Otaru of Igarra, Elder Folorunsho Dania also confirmed the incident to reporters.
It will be recalled that, in November 2015, armed robbers attacked the same community a situation that led to the death of six people then.
