The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, has issued a warning to the Department of State Services, DSS, to stop torturing Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

The coalition announced this in response to accusations in some sectors of the media suggesting that covert police operatives tortured the IPOB leader while he was in their custody.

The coalition's President General, Goodluck Ibem, issued a statement on Sunday urging the DSS to respect Kanu's fundamental rights, which he made available to journalists.

"If the rumors are genuine, we call on the DSS to stop any type of maltreatment or torture of Nnamdi Kanu and respect his fundamental human rights," the statement adds. The South-East zone is extremely tight, and any action by the DSS to exacerbate or exacerbate the already volatile security situation in the zone will not be beneficial to the country.

Torture of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is unproductive and, if not stopped soon, will lead to a significant security crisis in the country. The detention of Nnamdi Kanu by the Nigerian government has not benefited Nigeria economically, politically, or materially; rather, it has pushed the Nigerian economy into a more difficult and tight corner.

"It is tragic that millions of Nigerians die every day from hunger, starvation, poverty, and bad medical care, while the Nigerian government spends vast sums of money on just one individual."

We demand that the federal government disclose Nigerians how much money has been spent so far on Nnamdi Kanu's court appearances.

"Despite the fact that we are in a very tough economic condition, Nigerians would be amazed at how much has been spent so far for his court appearance."
