The detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has declared that he cannot be tried by any court in Nigeria.
This declaration followed a recent ruling by Justice Nyako, who dismissed the argument presented by Kanu’s defense lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor. Ejimakor had contended that the Supreme Court had ruled that Kanu's earlier bail should not have been revoked.
Justice Nyako stated that she reviewed the Supreme Court judgment but found no basis for the defense lawyer’s claim. Reacting to this pronouncement, Kanu vocally protested from the dock, asserting that he would not stand trial in any Nigerian court.
Kanu argued that attempting to put him on trial would violate Nigeria’s Constitution and international laws, further escalating the ongoing legal and political tensions surrounding his case.
