Sequel to the recent video that surfaced on social media depicting an unsettling scene at a Chinese supermarket located in the Royal Choice Estate on Airport Road, Abuja.

The footage showed Nigerian individuals being denied entry, sparking widespread concern and outrage.

The China General Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria has now issued an official statement on Monday, seeking to address the controversy surrounding the supermarket's actions. Contrary to initial reports portraying the estate as solely housing a supermarket, the Chamber clarified that the Royal Choice Estate comprises both office spaces and residential apartments.

Highlighting the misunderstanding, the statement explained that the Chinese supermarket in question operates within the residential section of the estate, which is distinct from the Chamber's operations. The Chamber emphasized that it is just one of several entities utilizing the facilities within the estate.

Moreover, the Chamber clarified that access control measures are in place within the residential area of the estate, where private residents enforce security protocols to manage external visitors. Contrary to widespread belief, the statement asserted that no individual faced discrimination or was barred from entering the estate or supermarket premises to purchase groceries.

However, the Chamber expressed regret over an altercation that reportedly occurred at the estate's entrance gate involving security personnel and a customer. Importantly, the Chamber stressed that this incident does not reflect the official stance of the estate management or the Chamber itself.
