A Nigerian female soldier, Lance Corporal Jonah Comfort, has been dismissed after confessing to stealing gold jewelry worth N35 million from the wife of an army general in Kaduna.
The incident, which reportedly occurred earlier in May, has raised eyebrows and sparked significant controversy within the military community.
Lance Corporal Comfort, identified by her service number 15NA/74/4422F, was attached to the general's wife when she committed the theft. According to sources, she entered the senior officer's room and took the valuable jewelry, later selling it to a jeweler in Kaduna for N5 million.
The army authorities have been discreet about the incident, concerned that public knowledge might lead to questions about how the general’s wife, a full-time housewife, acquired such expensive jewelry. This secrecy underscores the sensitivity and potential implications of the case.
The jeweler who bought the stolen items has also been arrested by military police, adding another layer of complexity to the situation. One source noted, "The army authorities have been careful over the issue because the general’s wife is a full housewife. How come she has jewelry worth millions of Naira? The jewelry stolen by the soldier, valued at N35 million, was just part of her collection."
The source also revealed that Comfort had been observing the general’s wife for some time before executing the theft. Despite her careful planning, she was ultimately caught, leading to her dismissal and detention.
