Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has voiced concerns about being marginalized in Senate committee discussions affecting her constituency.
Kingibe addressed this issue during Tuesday’s plenary while discussing the 2024 N98.5 billion supplementary budget for the FCT.
During her statement, Kingibe emphasized her position as the highest elected official in the FCT, representing over four million people, yet lamented her exclusion from key discussions, particularly those related to budget matters.
"Mr. President, I am the highest elected person in the FCT with over four million people," Kingibe stated. "I am not usually carried along in the issues that pertain to the FCT, especially the matters of budget. The FCT supplementary budget is presented today, but I am not even aware of the whole procedure. I was not invited to any meeting where the budget was discussed."
Senate President GodsWill Akpabio interrupted her, requesting her to present a formal motion in line with the order she cited, thereby guiding her to follow the procedural requirements for raising her concerns formally in the House.
