The Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) carried out a significant operation on Sunday, seizing essential goods valued at millions of Naira stored in ten warehouses at Dawanau International Commodity Market in Kano metropolis.

In response to the untold hardship imposed on citizens by food hoarders, the Commission initiated an intelligence mechanism and launched a manhunt to curb this illegal practice.

The Chairman of the Commission, Barrister Muhyi, led a grand operation with the Commission's personnel, cracking down on warehouses and stores engaged in hoarding various foodstuffs across the state. During the operation, the owners of these warehouses were conspicuously absent, but the opened ones revealed a stockpile of commodities, including rice, pasta, sugar, cooking oil, and other essential items.

Barrister Muhyi stated that notices have been issued to some warehouse owners, instructing them to report to the anti-graft Commission in preparation to face charges before the court of law for their illegal activities.

He emphasized the commitment of the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission to its promise of combatting the hoarding of essential commodities in the state. The Chairman highlighted the significant impact made within a week, preventing the sudden surge in the prices of essential commodities. Rice prices, for example, had surged from N52,000 to N61,000 within the span of a week.

Barrister Muhyi expressed gratitude for the progress made so far, indicating that the Commission's efforts have had a positive impact. Moving forward, the Commission aims to assess the situation in the market and sustain the momentum to bring down the prices of essential commodities from their current levels.
