In a scandal that has rocked the Egba Community in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, a pastor, whose identity is yet to be revealed, has been accused of engaging in a prolonged extramarital affair with a married woman from his choir.

The affair, which allegedly lasted for over eleven years, was exposed when the woman, whose name has not been disclosed, went into prolonged labor last weekend.

The woman, in a state of distress and fearing that her labor pains were a consequence of the adulterous relationship, confessed her secret to her husband and family members, seeking to be freed from what she believed was a punishment for her sins. The family, alarmed by the gravity of the situation, reported the matter to the palace of the Enogie (traditional ruler) of Egba, who promptly took action by instructing the Community Chief Priest and local youths to arrest the pastor.

The pastor was apprehended on Sunday, the same day as the church's annual thanksgiving service. As news of his arrest spread, angry youths from the community vandalized the church hall, which had been elaborately decorated for the occasion. The situation escalated quickly, with tensions running high as the enraged youths confronted the pastor for his actions.

At the Enogie Palace, during interrogation, the pastor confessed to his long-standing affair with the married woman. Acknowledging the affair, he was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation and legal proceedings.

This shocking event has left the community in disbelief, especially as it highlights the vulnerability of individuals in spiritual environments and the need for greater accountability within religious institutions. The case has raised important questions about the role of spiritual leaders in the lives of their congregants and the potential dangers of unchecked power.
