The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended four of its own officers on charges of kidnapping a hotel staff in Port-Harcourt, the state capital.

The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, confirmed the incident during a press briefing and assured the public that the perpetrators would face the consequences.

Commissioner Disu, reacting to the information he came across on social media, swiftly took action to secure the release of the victim and detain the officers involved in the heinous crime. He emphasized transparency in the investigation, stating, "We are not hiding anything. When the complaint comes, we will give you details of what we have done."

The incident unfolded over the weekend when some policemen on patrol intercepted Darlington Bieh around Choba in the Obio/Akpor area of the state. After searching the victim's belongings and finding nothing incriminating, the officers discovered photos indicating that Bieh worked in a prominent hotel.

Allegedly, the policemen then demanded a ransom in the millions from Bieh, threatening to kill him and dispose of his body in the Choba River if his family failed to comply. Bieh, quick on his feet, called his boss, the hotel owner, who promptly alerted a Divisional Police Officer (DPO).

In a clever maneuver, the DPO pretended to be the victim's father, resulting in the successful arrest of the suspects. Commissioner Disu emphasized the commitment of the Rivers State Police Command to addressing such incidents promptly and transparently. The officers involved are now in custody, awaiting the formal complaint from the victim for further legal proceedings.
