The Federal Government intends to help 133 million Nigerians escape poverty, according to Dr.

Betta Edu, the new Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

Edu revealed this to the heads of the ministry's agencies on Monday after the start of the new work week.

She claims that the FG can only accomplish this by implementing various interventions and initiatives to fight poverty.

“What is most important is that we will keep our focus on lifting 133 million Nigerians out of poverty.
“We can do it in phases, a step at a time, because with determination and strong will, nothing is impossible”, she said.

The Daily Post recalls that the National Bureau of Statistics disclosed that 65 percent of Nigerians are multidimensionally poor.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari, during his administration, had promised to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty, an objective he could not achieve.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Edu, has now taken over from Sadiya Umar Farouq to address poverty-related challenges that Nigerians face.
