In a surprising twist, Barcelona is reportedly considering Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez as a potential replacement for their star striker Robert Lewandowski, amid anticipated changes for both clubs in the upcoming summer transfer window.
With Barcelona facing a significant squad overhaul due to La Liga’s reduced salary cap of £174 million, high-earning players like Lewandowski, who earns £27 million annually, are expected to depart, despite his impressive performance at 36 years old. Lewandowski has scored 24 goals and provided nine assists in 45 appearances this season.
According to reports from The Sun, Barcelona's interest in Nunez dates back to four years ago when they nearly signed him from Almeria.
Despite Nunez being one of Liverpool’s top earners with wages around £7 million, he remains an attractive and financially feasible option for the Spanish giants.
However, Liverpool may be hesitant to let go of the Uruguayan forward, given that they acquired him from Benfica just two years ago in a record-breaking deal worth up to £85 million.
