Although England will enter the World Cup on a six-game losing streak, they helped manager Gareth Southgate by rallying from 2-0 down to draw 3-3 with Germany on Monday.

After Southgate's faith in Harry Maguire backfired for two German goals early in the second half, the Three Lions had already been demoted from the top tier of the Nations League and were under fire.

Despite being benched by Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag at the club level, Maguire has received the public support of the England manager.

Ilkay Gundogan scored the game's first goal from the penalty spot after Harry Maguire gave Jamal Musiala the ball before chopping down the Bayern Munich midfielder.

Afterward, after Maguire was eliminated in the German half, Kai Havertz curled brilliantly into the top corner.

In any of their opening five Group A3 games, England has not scored from open play.

However, two goals in the space of three minutes completely altered the atmosphere at Wembley and the level of scrutiny surrounding Southgate's departure for Qatar.

Luke Shaw was also restored to the starting line-up despite his lack of game time at Manchester United and started the fightback by volleying in at the back post.

Moments later, two of Southgate's substitutes combined to deadly effect as Bukayo Saka set up Mason Mount to curl home.

Harry Kane looked to have completed the turnaround from the penalty spot seven minutes from time after Nico Schlotterbeck's challenge on Jude Bellingham was punished following a VAR review.

Yet, there was more drama to come as Nick Pope spilled Serge Gnabry's shot and Havertz pounced on the rebound to give Germany a point.
