Chelsea's Premier League rivalry has suffered a new setback as a result of Liverpool's handling of the transfer of Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.

In order to beat Chelsea to the signing of Lavia this summer, Liverpool and Southampton have reached a £60 million agreement.

The Belgian's potential signing this summer's transfer window has been mentioned in connection with moves by both Liverpool and Chelsea.

The Reds have already had several offers for the 19-year-old rejected by Southampton, and now they are under even more pressure because Chelsea, who made an offer of £48 million last week, has also expressed interest in the player.

The Guardian is now reporting that Jurgen Klopp's team has now outbid Chelsea on Lavia and reached an agreement on a price of £60 million with Southampton.

The report added that Liverpool must still convince Lavia to join them ahead of Chelsea and could still risk losing out on another one of their midfield targets after Moises Caicedo held out for a move to the Blues.
