Happy 57th birthday to a true Arsenal legend, David Seaman.
Let's wish him the best
Arsenal signed Seaman for more than a million euros. It was a record transfer fee for a goalkeeper and the Arsenal board and manager were quite sure of the signing as it meant Arsenal’s fan favourite John Lukic would leave.
Some of the fans were angry and disappointed with the transfer, but Seaman proved them all wrong with his heroics. Seaman conceded only 18 goals in his first season and people were in joy with him. Seaman continued with his blistering form but it honours was on hold until 1996.
Arsene Wenger took over as the coach of Arsenal in 1996 and he considered Seaman a cut above all other goalkeepers in the league. Around this time, Seaman also became a regular for the country. He was one of the best goalkeepers of Euro Cup 1996 and was into the Team of The Tournament as well. Seaman led Arsenal to a Premier League and FA Cup double in 1997-98 season. He was the first choice keeper for England in the 1998 World Cup and he maintained 2 clean sheets in 4 games before crashing out of the tournament in the Round Of 16.
Happy Birthday
