Manchester United confirmed on Friday that the club has retained Mason Greenwood despite the player’s suspension while also announcing the departure of seven players.
Recall that Manchester United recently suspended Greenwood after he was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
But the Crown Prosecution Service withdrew those charges on February 2, after key witnesses decided to withdraw their involvement.
Despite no longer facing charges, Greenwood remains suspended by Manchester United, pending the outcome of an internal investigation into whether the 22-year-old brought the Red Devils into disrepute and was in breach of his contract.
Meanwhile, Manchester United confirmed the departure of seven players, with defenders Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe among those leaving the club.
In addition to those two, Man United added: “Ethan Galbraith and Di’Shon Bernard are seeking new opportunities elsewhere after loan spells at Salford City and Portsmouth, respectively. Both made their first-team debuts for United in a 2019 Europa League clash against Astana in Kazakhstan.
“Eric Hanbury, Charlie Wellens, and Manni Norkett are leaving the academy after the end of their current terms. The academy is proud of all our departing young players and their achievements while at the club. They will all be supported in securing professional contracts at new clubs, provided with a bespoke aftercare program, and will always have a lifelong association with Manchester United.”Manchester United confirmed on Friday that the club has retained Mason Greenwood despite the player’s suspension while also announcing the departure of seven players.
