The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has officially lifted the suspension placed on former Rivers United media director, Sammy Wejinya.
Wejinya was previously banned for the remainder of the season after publishing a viral story that allegedly painted the league in a negative light following an incident at the Lafia Township Stadium.
His suspension was revoked after he requested a retrial and appeared before an investigative panel to review his case. During the hearing on March 3, 2025, Wejinya issued a verbal apology and explained the reasons behind his initial failure to respond to an earlier invitation.
NPFL chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, confirmed the decision, stating:
"Our decisions are always guided by the objective to correct, not to harm, our players, officials, and clubs. Mr. Wejinya’s case was carefully reviewed after he submitted a letter of appeal and apology."
This development marks a significant step in fostering better communication and transparency within Nigerian football.
