Minister of Sports Development, John Owan Enoh, has called upon key stakeholders and the Nigerian populace to throw their weight behind Finidi George, the newly appointed head coach of the Super Eagles.
Enoh, speaking at George’s introduction ceremony held at the Media Centre of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, expressed optimism in George's capability to elevate the Super Eagles to greater heights.
Enoh emphasized the importance of nationwide support for George's success, noting the widespread approval of his appointment among Nigerians.
He underscored George's pivotal role in revitalizing Nigerian football, echoing the sentiment that the administration, under President Bola Tinubu, has been supportive of the sport and it's imperative not to falter in this regard.
Dr Ibrahim Muza Gusau, President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), echoed Enoh's sentiments, hailing George's appointment as a turning point in Nigerian football history. Gusau highlighted the public's desire for a homegrown coach to lead the Super Eagles, emphasizing the federation's responsiveness to this aspiration in selecting George.
With the World Cup and AFCON qualifiers looming, Gusau urged Nigerians to rally behind George as he assumes his new role. In response, Finidi George expressed gratitude to the NFF and the Nigerian people for the opportunity, pledging to dedicate his utmost effort to elevate Nigerian football to unprecedented heights.
