Twitter has announced recently that it would be partnering with some already established companies, including The Associated Press (AP) and Reuters, to help boost its effort to combat false information and bolster original content and information on its platform.

This move will enable Twitter to use the expertise of these companies to moderate and coordinate the trends that go on in its platform. It will also help the company's public relations and how they make its announcements giving coverage to a broader range of audiences.

With much pressure from the public for big–tech companies like Facebook, Twitter, Google to provide credible information to the public, Twitter’s new partnership with AP and Reuters aims to tackle misinformation and false news on its platform,

The Twitter curator team believes this is a great move to help deliver quality information to the public at all times.

This will be the first time Twitter is collaborating with another large firm to bolster original and legit information on its platform, as its spokesperson said.

The team will be involved with things that happen in the Explore Tab on the Twitter platform home screen, things related to a public event, including politics, activism, or even the pandemic. They can also handle the misinformation labels on various tweets without being checked on Twitter, especially information from authoritative sources that violate Twitter rules.

Also, the team will be working independently from the Twitters safety and Trust and Safety team, which is tasked with flagging misinformation and tweets that violate Twitter's guidelines and rules.

Twitter has had its fair share of trouble from misinformation and illegal content publicized through its platform, especially concerning the COVID-19 pandemic since its hit last year around the world. This is a major problem the company has been facing for a long time, and this partnership will help mitigate this trouble and put the public in a better view of the company.

In a statement by the Global head of UGC (user-generated content) newsgathering at Reuters, "Trust, accuracy, and impartiality are at the heart of what Reuters does every day ... those values also drive our commitment to stopping the spread of misinformation."

Working with the AP and Reuters Company, which are also working with Facebook on providing legit information on their platform, Twitter’s new partnership with AP and Reuters aims to tackle misinformation and false news on its platform.

Twitter believes it will help speed up the process with which it flags misinformation anywhere on its platform. This simply means in a situation where certain news or story is trending or is breaking news, and the Twitter Team can easily go to these more trusted platforms to verify the authenticity of the news or story and act on it accordingly.

This will help stop false information from going viral instead of waiting for a fact check before stopping it. This would help the Twitter team identify which content on its platform needs context adding and will work to add this context to such information appearing on the tweets, search, and even Twitter moments.

Though Twitter has always struggled with misinformation on its platform because of how it functions, reporting content in Real-Time and with high-profile celebrities and government officials making use of the platform who tend to use the platform for their private gains. The Twitter company has always battled with moves to combat misinformation on its platform. Still, none has been in the line of working with another company, a trusted partner in information share to the public.

As Twitter’s new partnership with AP and Reuters aims to tackle misinformation and false news on its platform, Tom Januszewski, vice president of Global Business Development at AP, in a statement about the new agreement, noted that "AP has a long history of working closely with Twitter, along with other platforms, to expand the reach of factual journalism," He continued "This work is core to our mission. We are particularly excited about leveraging AP's scale and speed to add context to online conversations, which can benefit from easy access to the facts".

It is important to also note that this partnership will be focused on the English language-based information on Twitter. However, the company looks forward to expanding its reach to cover other languages as time goes on.
