The Federal Government has taken decisive action by suspending the evaluation and accreditation of degree certificates obtained from the Republic of Benin and Togo.
This decision, announced by the Federal Ministry of Education, comes in the wake of an undercover investigation conducted by a Nigerian online platform that uncovered a degree mill operation in Cotonou.
The investigative report shed light on the alarming ease with which a journalist obtained a degree from Cotonou University within a mere six weeks. Even more concerning was the revelation that the individual subsequently participated in the mandatory one-year scheme organized by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
To address the gravity of the situation, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has released a list of foreign universities banned from operating in Nigeria. The list, sourced from the NUC website, includes institutions found to be engaging in dubious practices. Here is the comprehensive list of banned universities:
1. University of Applied Sciences and Management, Port Novo, Republic of Benin, and its other campuses in Nigeria.
2. Volta University College, Ho, Volta Region, Ghana, and its other campuses in Nigeria.
3. The International University, Missouri, USA, Kano and Lagos Study Centers, or any of its campuses in Nigeria.
