Nigerian musician and internet sensation Darlington Okoye, widely known as Speed Darlington, has found himself in police custody once again.
The arrest took place in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, while he was performing at a show shortly after returning to Nigeria earlier this week.
The news was confirmed by his lawyer and human rights advocate, Deji Adeyanju, in a statement shared on his official X page (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday. Adeyanju stated, “Our client, Speed Darlington, a.k.a AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria.”
As of now, the reasons for the singer’s detention remain unclear, leaving fans and social media buzzing with speculation.
This isn’t Speed Darlington’s first run-in with the law. He was previously arrested on allegations of cyberstalking fellow musician Burna Boy. That incident saw him detained in Lagos before being transferred to Abuja by the Intelligence Response Team of the Inspector General of Police. He was eventually released on bail.
Speed Darlington, famous for his eccentric personality and provocative music, has built a reputation for courting controversy. Whether it's his social media antics or his outspoken nature, the singer has frequently been at the center of public debates.
Fans are now eagerly awaiting updates on the reasons behind this latest arrest, with many questioning whether his bold public persona has landed him in trouble once again.
