The incident occurred on Friday in the city's market square, where a knife-wielding assailant attacked several people. The rally, organized by Pax Europa—a group campaigning against radical Islam—turned violent when the attacker wounded five participants.

Among the injured was Michael Stuerzenberger, a prominent far-right activist and blogger who was scheduled to speak at the rally. Stuerzenberger suffered serious stab wounds to his face and leg.

The other victims included four men aged 25, 36, 42, and 54. The 54-year-old man sustained injuries that were initially life-threatening but is now reported to be out of danger.

The police officer, who attempted to intervene, was "stabbed several times in the area of the head," according to a police statement. He underwent emergency surgery and was placed in an artificial coma but succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
