President Muhammadu Buhari and his administration have been demanded to resign immediately by the Anglican Communion in Calabar, Cross River State.

The church has also publicly disapproved of the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket of the national party, the APC, for the elections scheduled for next year and insisted that Nigeria must maintain its secular status.

During the second session of the diocese's eleventh synod, Bishop of Calabar Diocese, Rev Professor Nneoyi Egbe, presented the viewpoint of the church.

Although it is not in the nature of Nigerian politicians to do so, President Muhammadu Buhari and his administration should resign immediately due to their dishonesty, insensitivity to the misery of Nigerians, and increased insecurity.

The government lacks moral integrity. Nigerians are upset with them. How can they be so insensitive and at ease with the way recent events in Nigeria have played out? They are a total failure, and their system of government is compared to witchcraft, he declared.
This administration lives on deception. Nigeria, they claimed, is highly secure. Such a big deception. Despite the fact that there is security, people are unable to move around freely, sleep, get abducted, and are subject to extravagant ransom payments, as well as senseless killings, while the government only expresses its condolences.
He saw that the nation has steadily declined and that it is currently moving downward with a very high rate of acceleration.
"Nigerians have been so accustomed to the lies told to us over the years that each new step we take is comical. We cannot tackle corruption because our institutions are based on these lies, he added.
We categorically do not, will not, and cannot support a Muslim-Muslim or Christian-Christian ticket, Rev. Egbe remarked in reference to the APC running mate.
Our leaders must respect Nigeria's secularism. No one is entitled to more rights than another.
