The Bauchi State Police Command successfully apprehended Ahmed Mohammed, a 29-year-old resident of Polo High Court in Maiduguri, for his alleged involvement in the theft of a Toyota Highlander in Borno State.

The suspect's purported plan was to resell the stolen vehicle in Bauchi.

According to a statement issued by the Command's spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakili, on Tuesday, the arrest occurred on February 24, 2024, based on credible intelligence provided to the State Intelligence Department (SID).

Ahmed Mohammed was reportedly captured in the Bayan Gari Area of Bauchi, driving the stolen Toyota Highlander with the registration number ABC-65PK.

Further investigations revealed that the suspect had been employed as a driver by Damuli Investment Company Ltd., a company owned by his secondary school classmate in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Wakili disclosed that the motive behind the theft was the suspect's plan to sell the stolen vehicle for N2,000,000. The intention was to utilize the proceeds to cover his house rent and facilitate the return of his estranged wife.

Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Mohammed, has ordered additional investigations in Borno State to uncover any additional motives behind the suspect's actions, as the case continues to unfold.

This incident highlights the significance of effective intelligence gathering by law enforcement agencies and underscores the need for heightened vigilance to combat criminal activities such as auto theft in the region. The Bauchi State Police Command's swift action serves as a testament to their commitment to maintaining law and order within the community.
