The All Progressives Congress in Benue is facing a crisis as the party's National Working Committee dissolved the Austine Agada-led executives, who are loyal to George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
In their place, a seven-man caretaker committee has been inaugurated to manage the party's affairs in the state for six months.
The newly appointed committee is chaired by Benjamin Omale and has Prof Bem Angwe as its secretary. Other members of the committee include Richard Mzungweve, James Ornguga, Terhemen Ngbea, Helen Agaigbe, and Ali Francis Adah. This change of leadership follows a court order from a Benue High Court in Markurdi, which instructed the APC not to remove Agada and the current executives until the expiration of their tenure. The Benue chapter of the APC has been embroiled in a power struggle between Governor Hyacinth Alia and George Akume, with Agada leading Akume's faction and Benjamin Omakolo acting as the chairman of Alia's faction. Recently, Alia reportedly closed the party's secretariat to prevent the faction loyal to Akume from holding a scheduled meeting.
