Lai Mohammed accused Peter Obi of trying to incite an uprising in Nigeria, but Peter Obi has denied these claims.

Peter Obi, the Labour Party's nominee for president, has refuted claims made by Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information, that he is attempting to incite an uprising in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, March 4, 2023, Obi denied the claim and referred to Mohammed's accusation as "fictitious."

Reply from Peter Obi to Lai Mohammed

"It is regrettable that these repeated attempts to depict me in a manner that is contrary to my true nature and beliefs are coming from such high-ranking officials," Obi remarked. "Minister Lai's assertion that I am stoking insurrection is totally malicious and false."

Obi continued by claiming that he has never supported or preached any action against the Nigerian state, nor has he ever participated in or encouraged anyone to undermine it.

He claims that those making these accusations are increasingly using their official positions and standing to level defamatory accusations against him.

"I have always advocated for peaceful and issue-based campaigning and have never campaigned based on ethnicity or religion," he added. "I am dedicated to due process and am currently pursuing legal action in court."

FG charges Obi and Datti with treason

Speaking to some international media outlets in Washington, DC, as part of his official engagements, the minister claimed that Obi was wrong in two ways: first, for seeking legal redress over the election results, and second, for inciting violence.

“Obi and his Vice, Datti Ahmed, cannot be threatening Nigerians that if the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is sworn in on May 29, it will be the end of democracy in Nigeria.
“This is treason." You cannot invite insurrection, and this is what they are doing.
“Obi’s statement is that of a desperate person; he is not the democrat that he claimed to be."

The presidential candidate for the Labour Party disputed Lai Mohammed's accusations against Peter Obi and insisted that he is committed to fair elections and peaceful campaigning.
