The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed a significant power disruption in parts of Abuja, including the Presidential Villa, due to a recent act of vandalism.

The incident, which took place near the Millennium Park in Abuja, resulted in the theft of 40 meters of 1×500 mm² XLPE conductors from two 132kV transmission lines. This vandalism has severely impacted power distribution, causing widespread outages across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

As a direct consequence, over 60% of the power supply to Abuja has been affected, including key areas such as Maitama, Wuse, Jabi, Life Camp, Asokoro, Utako, Mabushi, and parts of the Presidential Villa.

TCN has responded swiftly, deploying engineers to the site to begin repairs on the damaged cables. The company has assured that efforts are underway to restore power as quickly as possible to the affected regions.

This incident adds to a series of challenges faced by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), which recently reported power outages caused by faulty 132-kilovolt lines between Katampe and the AT5 Central Area Transmission Station.
