Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) should brace for temporary power outages as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) undertakes critical maintenance work this weekend.
In an official statement issued on Saturday, Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, announced that planned maintenance will be conducted at two major transmission substations—Gwagwalada and Kukwaba—affecting electricity supply in several areas.
Maintenance Schedule and Affected Areas
Saturday:
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., maintenance will take place on a 60MVA power transformer and associated switchgears at the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation. During this four-hour period, electricity supply will be disrupted in Gwagwalada and surrounding areas, as the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) pauses operations to accommodate the work.
Sunday:
On Sunday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., maintenance will target another 60MVA power transformer at the Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation. The power outage will impact Wuye, EFCC, Federal Medical Centre, Coca-Cola, Idu Railway Station, Citec, and Life Camp, among other locations.
Why This Maintenance Matters
TCN emphasized that these activities are essential for maintaining optimal performance of power equipment and ensuring long-term reliability. While acknowledging the inconvenience, TCN expressed regret for the disruptions, especially during the festive end-of-year season.
"We sincerely apologize for any hardship this may cause, but this scheduled maintenance is crucial for improved service delivery,” the statement read.
