Unfolding in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, gunmen ruthlessly assassinated a well-known businessman, Linus Nmuo, popularly referred to as Sakatan.

The distressing event took place at his residence in Umuezikegbu, Egbuoma community, Oguta LGA, during the early hours of the day.

A source from the victim's family, preferring anonymity, shared details with our correspondent in Owerri, revealing that the assailants, upon arrival, forcibly entered Nmuo's house and dragged him out. In a horrifying act, they shot him multiple times, ensuring his demise before departing the scene.

The grieving family member stated, "Livinus Nmuo, AKA Sakatan from Umuezikegbu Egbuoma in Oguta LGA Imo State, has been assassinated. He was killed in the early hours of today, Thursday, November 30, 2023. He was my cousin."

As the community grapples with this shocking incident, our attempts to seek confirmation from the state police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, remained unanswered at the time of reaching out to him.

This unfortunate event follows a series of violent acts in the state, including the recent killing of a Divisional Police Officer, another policeman, and a civilian in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA. Additionally, the traditional ruler of Otulu community, Eze Joe Achulor, met a tragic end, with his lifeless body discovered in Mbutu Community, Aboh Mbaise LGA.

In a separate incident, Chiedoziem Anyanwu, the ward chairman of the People Democratic Party in the Ife/Akpodim/Chokoneze ward, Ezinihitte Mbaise LGA, was fatally shot in the presence of his wife. The assailants, upon locating him, unleashed a barrage of gunfire, ensuring his demise before making a swift exit.

The unsettling wave of violence in Imo State raises concerns about the safety and security of its residents, urging authorities to take swift action in addressing the escalating crisis.
