The Edo State Police Command has apprehended five women in connection with a horrifying incident of public humiliation.
Christabel Akhigbe found herself at the mercy of these individuals, who subjected her to a harrowing ordeal over allegations of phone theft in Benin City.
According to a report, Commissioner of Police Funsho Adeboye revealed that the women not only accused Christabel of stealing an Android phone but also resorted to extreme measures to extract a confession. Inviting her to return the alleged stolen device, they proceeded to assault her, stripping her naked and threatening further harm.
Adeboye further disclosed that the perpetrators, in a shocking display of callousness, recorded the victim's humiliation and shared it across social media platforms, exacerbating her trauma.
Upon receiving the distressing complaint, law enforcement swiftly moved to apprehend the suspects, who later confessed to their reprehensible actions. Identified as Blessing Lucky, Jennifer Eboigbe, Iziegbe Ogbodu, Naomi Ekhonetomwan, and Lucky Endurance, these individuals now face charges of indecent assault and cyberstalking.
The Commissioner of Police emphasized the gravity of the situation, cautioning against vigilante justice and underscoring the need for due process. He lamented the reversal of roles, where those meant to seek justice became perpetrators of injustice.
In an interview, one of the suspects, Jennifer Eboigbe, expressed remorse for her involvement in the incident, acknowledging the gravity of their actions and the pain inflicted upon the victim.
