If the Federal Government does not pay outstanding promotion arrears owed to its members and address the issue of employment racketeering perpetrated through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to resume its strike.

These were disclosed by the body in a statement issued on Thursday.

ASUU stated that it was "seriously concerned" about the fact that some of its members were owed several months' worth of promotion arrears because of errors linked to the coercive enrollment of academics on the IPPIS platform.

The union claimed that despite numerous attempts by ASUU and university administrations, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) had not addressed the problem.

Additionally, ASUU stated that it was "disturbed" by reports of widespread employment racketeering carried out by IPPIS operators, including "scandalous revelations" made at recent meetings of the House of Representatives' Probe Panel on IPPIS.

According to the union, the dishonest trend has undermined university employment customs in violation of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act of 2003 and each university's guidelines for appointments and promotions.

ASUU urged the OAGF to take action against employment racketeering through the IPPIS and to ensure the immediate release of the backlog of promotion arrears to its members.

The union issued a warning that if the government did not address these issues, it would go back on strike.
