The Department of State Services (DSS) has apprehended Abdulmajid Danbilki Kwamanda, a prominent politician from Kano, over allegations of inciting the masses to instigate an uprising and create an ungovernable situation in the state.

A senior official from the secret police in Kano, who chose to remain anonymous, confirmed to Daily Trust that Kwamanda was taken into custody following the circulation of a viral video containing one of his recent radio interviews. Known for his critical stance on various issues, the controversial politician was arrested after the security agencies became aware of the provocative content in the video.

After the arrest, Kwamanda was handed over to the police and subsequently charged before a Magistrate Court in the state. The court, in turn, ordered his remand in a correctional facility.

The video interview that led to Kwamanda's arrest featured him claiming that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), had devised plans to reinstate Muhammadu Sanusi, the deposed 14th Emir of Kano. In the footage shared with Daily Trust, Kwamanda expressed his intent to mobilize the masses, orchestrating a large and disruptive uprising that would compel the federal government to declare a state of emergency in Kano.

Sources reveal that Kwamanda has been vocal in expressing dissatisfaction with the Supreme Court judgment affirming Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's election as Kano state governor. He has also criticized President Bola Tinubu, accusing him of not ensuring that the All Progressives Congress (APC) retained control of the state.

Additionally, Kwamanda, along with others, has raised objections to the Central Bank of Nigeria's (CBN) decision to relocate some staff from Abuja to Lagos, as well as the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria's (FAAN) plan to move its headquarters from Abuja to Lagos. He alleges that these actions are part of a larger scheme orchestrated by the Tinubu-led administration to undermine the northern part of the country.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the arrest of Kwamanda underscores the government's commitment to maintaining peace and order while addressing potential threats to public safety. The case is poised to draw attention to the intersection of politics, dissent, and security in the region.
