In a disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through Benin City, Emmanuel Ovwarueso has been apprehended by the Edo State Security Network (ESSN) for the gruesome crime of allegedly beheading his own daughter in pursuit of money rituals.
The arrest took place in Uteh, Upper Mission, where the suspect resided, and it unfolded on Thursday around midnight. Shockingly, Emmanuel Ovwarueso was found in possession of the severed head of his deceased daughter, concealed in a polythene bag.
Reports indicate that the suspect not only committed this heinous act but also tied and gagged his wife before carrying out the brutal killing of their daughter in her presence.
According to the wife, whose name has not been disclosed at the time of this report, Emmanuel's behavior had taken a sinister turn recently. She shared, “My husband’s attitude changed recently. He kept saying I should not look at him like a poor man anymore. At his place of work, he was buying drinks for everyone as if he was celebrating. Even his co-workers were surprised at his new spending style. He even told them that his money is very near. We never knew he had plans to use our daughter for rituals.”
An anonymous member of the ESSN revealed, “We saw him that Thursday night with a bag, walking so fast like he was rushing to catch a flight. We stopped him, but he resisted. We asked what was inside the bag; he said it was his food. So we searched the bag and found a human head inside it."
The ESSN interrogated the suspect, uncovering inconsistencies that led them to his residence. There, they discovered the wife tied down and learned that Emmanuel had restrained her with a rope before carrying out the unthinkable act against their daughter.
The suspect then cooperated in leading the ESSN to the burial site, where the little girl's body was exhumed from a shallow grave.
Emmanuel Ovwarueso has been handed over to the Nigeria Police, Edo State Command, for further investigation into this horrifying incident that has left the community in shock and mourning.
