The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intensified its efforts to combat illicit alcohol production in Lagos State, uncovering a clandestine facility at the Trade Fair Complex.
In a recent enforcement operation spearheaded by NAFDAC's Investigation & Enforcement Directorate, authorities dismantled unauthorized production setups operating within various units of Niger 4 Plaza.
The crackdown, prompted by actionable intelligence, yielded significant findings. The enforcement team seized a plethora of incriminating evidence, including mini plastic mixing tanks, improvised filters, cartons of empty bottles with intact labels, corks, packaging materials, and a variety of already manufactured and packaged alcoholic beverages.
The operation resulted in the confiscation of over 3,452 cartons of both empty and filled bottles, valued at more than two hundred and fifty million naira (₦250 million). This swift intervention by NAFDAC underscores the agency's steadfast dedication to protecting public health and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards within the food and beverage sector.
NAFDAC urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office. Individuals can also provide information via email or by contacting the agency's dedicated hotlines. Through collaborative efforts and vigilant oversight, NAFDAC continues to uphold its mandate of safeguarding consumers and maintaining the integrity of Nigeria's food and drug supply chain.
