The seizure took place at the NAHCO import shed of the Lagos airport when NDLEA officers discovered giant wooden boxes, disguised as sound speakers. Upon opening these boxes, they uncovered sixty (60) bags of the expensive and highly sought-after psychoactive substance, Loud, weighing a total of 33.5 kilograms.

In the subsequent follow-up operations conducted between Thursday, February 15th, and Friday, February 16th, 2024, three suspects were apprehended. Akeem Afeez, a freight agent, was arrested at the airport, Babalola Ayodeji Gboyega, the logistics company manager, was nabbed at his office on Allen Avenue Ikeja, and Taiwo Olusegun Anuoluwapo, the receiver of the consignment, was traced to his residence at 13 Ayo Babatunde Crescent, Lekki Phase1, Lagos.

Meanwhile, in Abia, a joint raid operation conducted by the NDLEA and the State Homeland Security at 23 Arochukwu street, Umuahia, around 11 pm on Wednesday, February 14th, resulted in the arrest of several individuals. Among them are a 36-year-old female lawyer, Adaobi Nweke; her 36-year-old boyfriend, Emeka Nkemefola; her 65-year-old mother, Mrs. Ngozi Nweke; Dike Okpara, a 43-year-old herbalist to the family; Chukwudi Abel, a 33-year-old family member; Amarachi Paul, an 18-year-old family member, and their 22-year-old salesgirl, Blessing Jonathan.

Investigations revealed that the family had been involved in the illicit drug trade for an extended period, a business allegedly passed down by their now deceased father, Jonathan Nweke. Upon their arrest, various quantities of Cocaine, Heroin, Methamphetamine, Loud, Cannabis Sativa, and precursor chemicals were recovered, with a total weight of 1.670kg, along with a monetary exhibit of N578,400. The NDLEA continues its efforts to curb illicit drug activities and ensure the safety of the community.
