The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a strong condemnation regarding the unauthorized use of official police uniforms and equipment by social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as “VDM,” in a video posted on his platforms.
The NPF has distanced itself from this portrayal, emphasizing that it was neither sanctioned nor approved.
A full investigation is underway to uncover how the Police gear was obtained and under what authority VDM used it in his content. The NPF reminds the public that unauthorized use of police uniforms, insignia, or related items is illegal, with penalties outlined in Section 251 of the Criminal Code Law and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law.
While the Nigeria Police Force supports the creative industry and young Nigerians’ enthusiasm for content creation, it cautions against the misuse of police symbols. Such actions, they stated, undermine the values and integrity of the Force and are unacceptable.
