A horrifying tragedy unfolded in Otor-Owhe, a community in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, as an enraged mob set a man on fire after he beheaded a woman in a shocking act of violence.

The brutal incident has left residents in fear and disbelief.

What Led to the Gruesome Murder?

The suspect, identified as Oghenero, allegedly carried out the chilling attack following a dispute involving his mother. According to sources, the victim slapped Oghenero’s mother during an argument. Furious over the assault on his mother, Oghenero vowed revenge in a manner that would shake the entire community.

Determined to retaliate, he tracked down the woman on her farm, where he brutally beheaded her in cold blood. In an even more shocking twist, he placed the severed head in a polythene bag and carried it back home, sending shockwaves throughout the area.

Mob Justice: How the Community Reacted

As soon as Oghenero returned with the victim’s head, local vigilantes quickly apprehended him. However, realizing the gravity of his crime, he attempted to escape. To stop him, the vigilantes shot him in the legs, preventing his getaway.

By this time, news of the horrific murder had spread across the community, sparking outrage. A furious mob gathered, overwhelmed with anger and grief. Taking justice into their own hands, they set Oghenero ablaze, ensuring he paid the ultimate price for his actions.

Community in Shock

The brutal incident has left Otor-Owhe residents deeply shaken, with many struggling to comprehend the level of violence that transpired. The authorities are yet to issue an official statement, but the case underscores rising concerns about jungle justice and unchecked acts of retaliation in local communities.
