Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani Bello, a respected Islamic scholar and influential preacher, sadly passed away at the age of 84.

The beloved Oyo State-born cleric's death was confirmed by Sheikh Akewugbagold Taofeek, an Ibadan-based preacher, through a heartfelt post on Facebook on Friday.

Sheikh Akewugbagold shared his grief, expressing that the renowned scholar, often referred to as "Sultonu Wahizeen" of Yorubaland, had returned to his Creator. He prayed for Allah’s mercy upon his soul, offering heartfelt tributes in this difficult moment. “Today is one of my saddest days. My father and mentor have returned to their Creator. May Allah be pleased with Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani Bello's soul. Aljannah Fridaos for you," Akewugbagold wrote, further adding, "Our hearts are full of grief and our eyes full of tears, but we will say nothing but what will please Allah, the sole commander of life and death."

The late scholar's son, Alhaji Basit Olanrewaju Katibi Bello, known as Aponle Anobi, also confirmed the passing of his father with an emotional post, sharing a picture of Sheikh Muhydeen along with crying emojis, although further details were not disclosed.

Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani Bello, born in 1940 to Alhaji Bello Ajani and Alhaja Ubaidat Bello of Arolu Compound, Ita Olukoyi in Ibadan, was widely recognized for his contributions to Islamic scholarship and teachings throughout his life.

The Islamic community has lost a giant, and his memory will live on through his teachings and impact. May his soul rest in peace.
